The Primary section is divided into:
• Key Stage 1 (KS1) -the learning stage for children in Year groups 1 & 2
• Key Stage 2(KS2) -the learning stage for children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6
At Al Shohub we welcome boys and girls in the Primary section up to Year 4 and girls only from Year 5 onwards.
English is the main teaching language. Students also follow the Ministry of Education Arabic curriculum.
The Primary curriculum builds on the essential skills acquired in KG.
Children are taught to broaden their knowledge and understanding of a range of subjects. They are encouraged to use initiative and to be active, independent learners.
We want to encourage our students to be life-long learners and firmly believe that a love of reading is an essential part of this.
The children regularly visit the school library for activities with our qualified librarian.
At Al Shohub, there is a strong English literacy programme catering for both native speakers and second language students.
This enables children to make consistent progress and to be successful learners in all subjects, which are taught in line with British curriculum levels.
Progress is measured against National Curriculum attainment targets.

Each child’s progress is carefully monitored and assessed throughout the year and there are more formal examinations at the end of the year.
Parents receive written reports three times a year and parents’ meetings are held twice a year.
However, we are happy to discuss children’s progress at any time and encourage parents to make appointments to see class teachers and the Head of Primary.
In Year 6, students take the CIE Checkpoint Primary tests in English, Maths and Science; these are international standard tests, which assess student aptitude for the British secondary school curriculum.
We are committed to educating the ‘whole’ child and we put great emphasis on personal and social development.
Children are encouraged to show judgement and leadership and to nurture individual skills and talents within a caring community.
Our PSHE curriculum is present in all aspects of school life. Our students are encouraged to be the best they can be and rewarding positive behaviour develops a self worth in the students.
The ‘House’ system develops team spirit and ultimately a feeling of belonging and security that is vital for successful learning.
We offer a range of after-school clubs so that children can pursue broader interests.
We firmly believe that you can entrust your child’s education to us, in the confidence that we will take all necessary steps to provide a valuable and rewarding educational experience in a
stimulating and secure learning environment.
