In FS1 this week we have explored freezing and melting through our observation of ice. Children chose different size containers, added some polar animals and numbers and filled them with water. Children observed how water moves because it is a liquid but after it has frozen, water takes the shape of the container it is in and becomes a solid.
Children explored ice as it began to melt and observed and felt ice become a liquid again. They understood that because their hands and environment are warm it makes ice melt. There was lots of descriptive language used such as freezing, chilly, wet, drippy, liquid, hard and solid as children explored the texture of the ice. Children enjoyed hitting the ice to break it into small pieces and hold it in their hands. In math we have focused on number 6. Children coloured and cut out number 6 and having been making and counting amounts of 6.
