April was another wonderful month of learning in FS1. We have begun a new topic about ‘People who help us in the community’. We learnt about people such as, Police, Fire fighters Doctors and Teachers. Our focus so far has been to look at the role of the Police and how they keep us safe.
We learned about traffic police, and used traffic light signals they made to role play telling cars to stop, get ready and go. We explored different disguises and finger prints and know that’s how the Police can catch criminals.
We celebrated our first International Day. FS1 showcased Ethiopia. We explored lots of delicious fruits and fragrant spices that come from Ethiopia as well as traditional crafts and music. We travelled to other countries using the passports we made.
We also celebrated World Book Day and the joy of reading books. Children came to school dressed as a character from their favourite story. It was great fun.
A travelling theatre company came to school. We watched ‘The Jungle Book’ in our auditorium. It was amazing.
In FS1 we have begun to learn phonic sounds. We are learning to say the sounds and write sounds, using a variety of media.
