This week our focus person in the community who help us was, a Fire Fighter. Children learnt about the important but dangerous job firefighters do every day to keep us safe. We watched video clips of fire fighters, fighting real fires and rescuing a cat from a tree.
Children explored the tools fire fighters need to do their job and as it was sustainability week in school this week, children made role play props with recyclable materials of some equipment fire fighters use.
Children observed fire and could see hot colours such as red, yellow and orange. They mixed all these colours together to make a big fire display in the classroom.
Children listened to fire burning. They have learnt lots of new vocabulary to describe how fire looks and sounds, such as dancing, crackling, popping, fizzing and glowing.
Children also enjoyed a WOW day. It was fun to come to school wearing pyjamas.
This week in phonics we have learnt the sounds d, t, i and n. We are learning new words that begin with these sounds and we are learning to write these sounds using lots of different media, such as sand, glitter and shaving foam.
