In FS1 this week we have been learning about how fruits and vegetables grow. Children watched video of how a variety of fruits and vegetables grow. They know some vegetables grow underground such as carrots and potatoes and some fruits grow on trees such as apples and oranges. We have planted a turnip after reading the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and children have observed leaves beginning to grow. From this story children have learnt lots of alternative size language such as massive, huge, gigantic, large and big to describe size, which is fantastic. Children are enjoying watching the sunflower seeds they planted begin to grow. They are developing care and concern for living things and the environment and an understanding of growth, decay and changes over time. Children have also been re telling the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ in their own words, through a story map, which we will make into a new classroom display.
